Flavor Focus: Irish Cupcakes

1 Mar

It’s March.  Finally, glorious March!

So what, you say?  What’s so great about March?

Well, let me tell you.  March means… warmer weather, budding trees, flip-flops, outdoor happy hour, college basketball and…

Irish cupcakes in honor of the one, the only, St. Patrick’s Day.

These are mimicked after the famous (or, more accurately, infamous) Irish Car Bomb drink.  The base is a Guinness chocolate cupcake, topped with a layer of ganache and finished with a swirl of Bailey’s buttercream.

Adult’s only here folks.  Trust me, we adults have the luck o’ the Irish with us on this one!

Order Up!

6 Dec

I know.  It’s December 6.  Plenty of time left before the big day.  Right?

Wrong.

I’m sorry.  I hate to be the bearer of bad news.  But the fact is, you need to start thinking about it.  Start planning for it.  Start ordering for it.

Truth is, I’m already elbow deep in sugar cookie dough and waste high in royal icing.  Okay, not literally, but the holiday orders are in full swing.

So I thought I would remind you to get those orders in as soon as possible.  And no later than Saturday, December 11.  Sounds early, I know. But time doesn’t stand still.  Not even in Kristina’s Confections holiday kitchen.

Need a refresher?

Here you go…

Happy Holidays!!!

Flavor Focus: Snickerdoodle

2 Dec

It’s no secret… I LOVE the cinnamon/sugar combination.  Obviously, this means I LOVE LOVE LOVE snickerdoodle cookies.  I will pick them over just about any other cookie, any day of the week.

When I came across the idea of a snickerdoodle cupcake, I was sold.

And these do not disappoint.  Honestly, I think these are my favorite cupcakes I’ve made to date.  Yes, I love most of them, but these pack the perfect punch.

The base is a light cake, laced with a hint of cinnamon.  The top is crunchy and crackly, full of the comforting cinnamon and sugar flavor, just like the cookie.  The whole thing is finished with a cinnamon buttercream.

Seriously.  Heaven.  In.  Cupcake.  Form.

A Bowl Full of Peppermint Twists!

1 Dec

Last, but definitely not least, for the 2010 Christmas collection are… peppermint twists!

These sweet and simple cookies, made to resemble the classic peppermint candy, would be a great addition to any holiday party.  Bringing together past and present, they are sure to be a hit.

Wouldn’t they make quite a statement in a large glass bowl?

Peppermint twists (packaged two per bag) are medium cookies and priced at $35 per dozen, $22.50 per half dozen.

Don’t Forget Your Mittens!

30 Nov

The mitten cookies are back, this time updated and, in my opinion, even cuter than last year!

The whimsical patterns and the modern colors make these the perfect gift for anyone and everyone.  Think teachers, co-workers and friends.

If I could find a pair of mittens that looks like one of these, I might just remember to wear them!

Mittens are large cookies and priced at $45 per dozen, $27 per half dozen.  Please indicate if you want one style or an assortment of all three styles.

Charlie’s Trees

30 Nov

I decided quite a while ago that I wanted to go with a completely different color palate for the 2010 Christmas cookies.  And after seeing a cookie in a magazine, I was set on turquoise, red and white.

That said, as I was working on designs, I thought the colors might be too much of a stretch for trees.  After I made the sample set, however, my mom and I agreed – we loved them.

They remind me of the trees in a Charlie Brown Christmas.  No, not the Charlie Brown tree, but rather the other trees that Charlie didn’t like.  The commercial trees.

But, no worries, in today’s world, these are perfectly whimsical and the complete antithesis of commercial!

Trees are large cookies and priced at $45 per dozen, $27.00 per half dozen.  Please indicate if you want one style or an assortment of both styles.

‘Tis The Season

29 Nov

It’s true.  It’s that time of year again.  You know, the time to sing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (oh, Brenda Lee), the time to watch Elf (one of my personal favorites) and the time to sip a Bailey’s hot chocolate.  The holidays are in full effect, people.

And that means, it’s time to reveal the first of the 2010 Christmas sugar cookies.

“Drummer Boy” drum roll please…

#1 is Santa’s Suit.

This special medallion cookie focuses on the big guy’s famous mid-section.  Or, if you prefer, you can look at it as an ode to today’s Christmas icon.

Wouldn’t these be a cute cookie to leave out for Santa on Christmas Eve?

Santa’s suit is a medium cookie and priced at $35 per dozen, $22.50 per half dozen.
