Fear the Turtle!

2 Sep

I am a proud Villanova Wildcat.  I won’t say I bleed blue and white (it’s not really my nature), but I love talking about my Villanova experience, catching up with my many Villanova friends and watching Villanova basketball (and, I promise, Jay Wright is only half the reason this is enjoyable!).

But I am a huge football fan and, well, Villanova is not exactly a college football power house.  Yes, we are reigning 1-AA Champions, but that doesn’t quite put us on the weekly AP or Coaches poll.

Enter the Maryland Terrapins.

I know what you are thinking – the poor Maryland Terps have had a few rough years on the football field, but at least the games are televised.  Sometimes even nationally.

And the truth is a bit of my heart will always be a Maryland Terrapin.  I grew up just a few miles from the College Park campus and, for as long as I can remember, I have watched Maryland football and basketball.  I even had a Maryland cheerleading uniform… when I was four (the one and only time in my life you would find me in a cheerleading uniform).

So with the college football season upon us, I could not let the opportunity pass to show a bit of pride. And it serves as a general reminder to…

School’s In Session

26 Aug

My Godmother’s son started college on Monday.  It makes me feel old.  To all of them, I am old… but I’ve always been “the baby” to my mom’s friends, keeping me young.  Seeing the next round of kids start college negates this long standing idea.  Scary. (I’ve LONG been out of college, for those who are wondering!)

But, this is going to be fun.  See, Big Boy is now a Mountaineer.  I am a Wildcat.  Big East rivalry.

For his graduation party, I made West Virginia medallion cookies.

I couldn’t let the opportunity pass to remind him who reigns.  So I simply tucked in a few Villanova cookies among the WVU cookies.  It didn’t take him too long to notice…

I also made East Carolina medallions for another family member who is off to ECU (the pirate mascot was a bit much for me to throw together at the last minute!).

To all those who are starting school – old and young – good luck and enjoy the ride.

And stay tuned to see who wins this year’s Big East basketball bragging rights.  I think you know where I stand on this issue.

V for Villanova… V for Victory!!!
